I was going to keep it quiet, but I am filled with rage.

So, the big news is out there, simply because we had to tell Jooj that Mami has a baby in her tummy.

We had to tell her because she was SO worried about me because I was SO sick and tired. So we told her.

And she told EVERYONE at church.

Which is fine, we weren't NOT telling, we just were too tired to talk about it because our brains haven't processed it. Not superstitious or anything, just overwhelmed.

And this lady at church, who has a paucity of tact, asked W what he wanted.

And he said "My abuela has told me it had better be a boy, and it had better be named Waldo. So that's what had better happen."

And then, this lady, said "WALDO? You are going to name your baby THAT? WHY? EW?"

And he looked her straight in the eye and said "Because it is MY name. And my father's name. And my uncle's name. My cousin's name, my great uncle's name, and my great grandfather's name."

And if I had been there I would have added "And I don't know anyone better than these men to name someone after. Your children would be LUCKY to have a man that they can emulate like these men. And WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?"

But I was at home eating Hostess cherry pies and soft pretzels with ranch dressing.

(excessive use of exclamation points is totally legal in this case)
It's out there!

I am still blown away and so thrilled!

The lady's a jerkwad. But, be prepared...you probably haven't heard the last of people's opinions.

CONGRATULATIONS! Very excited for you - I hope things go really smoothly and that you get lots and lots of rest.

Deena said...

Congratulations! and wow. That lady is a moron.

dastew said...

"A party in your womb" are we invited? I'll bring the bean dip.

I just have to say officially, congrats.

Also that woman's awesome. I just hope that someday I can be as much of an ass hat as she is. Seriously, that's fantastic. Did she then go on to say that it was too bad the baby would have a weird first name and a Mexican last name?

People suck.

La Yen said...

Stew, I wouldn't be surprised.

And thanks for the congrats everyone. It is weird. But good.

And I love Ranch.

wendysue said...

Holy Babyola! That's fantastic!

I think that lady and b's library friend should get together. . .now THAT would be a party.

I hear you on the "sickness". . .eat anything you feel like eating (and the stuff that won't be so bad coming back up. . just sayin.)

WHAAAA?????

are you for real???

congratu-freaking-lations!

Waldo or Waldette. Either one sounds great to me.

Holy cow--HOORAY!!!! I have the biggest smile on my face. I'm super, super, super excited for you.

People kind of freak out when they hear that Crossley's middle name is Ernest (also a much used family name on Craig's side), so I can imagine how obnoxious church lady was.

Makes me think I might write a post on a name reaction in honor of you.....hmmmm.....

~j. said...

So...who's the father?

La Yen said...

Thanks Wendy! I am with you on the reverse food...

And Gurrbanzo, that was my EXACT reaction to the news. But with a few four-letter words.

~J, I am also trying to figure out who the mother is.

La Yen said...

Cabesh, Just tell people it is "Ernesto." Then they will think that you are ethnic and they will be too afraid to say anthing.

I'm crossing my fingers for a Waldo, because that name is awesome.

Look whose rocky place offered some purchase for seed!

Fig said...

We seriously considered Waldo when we thought we were having a boy, but I was like "Yen would think I was being a suckup." I love the name INDEPENDENTLY of the cool people attached to it, so that lady can suck it.

On another note, AW@_+#()(&#*$&^*&#$^*!*#$^%^&!#$!!!

I will not quit smiling all day. This is the best news I've heard in so, so, so long.

Can I drive to EP and bring you a treat?

Rynell said...

Wow! I am very, very happy for you! CONGRATULATIONS!

Emily said...

Congratulations! That is so great!

My sister just named her twins Hank and George and they've gotten lots of: "Shut up, no one would ever name their kids those names. What are they really?"

Fig said...

P.S. How sweet is it that Jooj was worried about you? I love that.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am SO excited for you! I hope you get feeling better soon, and that all goes smoothly :)

Kalli's comment wins here, I think.

And Waldo Sue has a nice ring to it.

Do you need ~j to ship you some ghetto pizza's?

sarah said...

Congratulations Jen!

You are going to have to develop a thicker skin, though. Take it from someone who named her son Huck. People will either love it or hate it. There's not much in between.

Wife of dastew said...

Sorry that my better half tricked the news out of you last week. He's not so good with words sometimes.
We are excited for you though, and wish you the best.
But seriously, Waldo? If you cave to that then my first son will HAVE to be Stewart.

soybeanlover said...

Weeeeeeeeeeee!!! Super duper congratu-ma-lations. We'll try to send some boy vibes over your way.

I kissed my children when I read this!

Oh and anyone who says they don't like a baby name must not remember "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Good golly! I think Waldo is an awesome name.

CKW said...

Oh yay!!! I am so excited for you. Send me your address so I can send you thousands of Buckeyes. No woman in her first trimester should lift a finger much less make her own buckeyes.

Yes, I am serious about your address. If you don't, I'll keep buggin' you until you do (cyndiwren@hotmail.com). This is such great news! Congrats.

Mrs. O said...

That is so FREAKING cool! (the baby in your tummy part, not the mean in-yo-face lady part).

I mean where is that Hot Tamale Train when you really need it? WooWoo!

As for names... When I told my BIL that we were naming Taj "Taj" he said, "It sounds like you're hocking a loogie." Nice.

Bek said...

That is so great. I also sent an email. Congrats. I wan you to have a Waldo too. Cubby is a great nickname ( if you find that too many people in one room answer to the same name). I love the name.

this is great news ( and now we can discuss replied to all the people who will now say " see, as soon as you adopt you can have your OWN kids. This people will make church lady's test of your patience seem like a spa day)

Love to you all

Ahhhh!!!
What???

Congratulations Mama! That is so exciting! I say get used to stupid & innappropriate comments now...This chick in my ward asked what we were having last time (#3) and I said...Boy!

She went..."Aww! That sucks!"

Pardon me?
And if we are indeed gestating Boy #4, I may have to punch any patronizing comment people.

Seriously, though! Yay!

So...now you gots to drop the due date!

Congratulations to you!!! I am so HAPPY for you guys! Also, this made me want to share a story...

...Back in the hospital day, I was registering a patient. She saw my name tag and asked if I was related to the Coach because of the last name.... Then she says, "It's a unique last name around this area... it's a nice last name. I just don't know WHO in the right mind... would name... their child... Brandy."

My response: "Really? ??? Evelyn??? Really??"

Hugs!

a-w-e. s-o-m-e. awesome. awesome. to-tah-lee. (Toe touch).

If it's a girl, can't you name her Walda? I mean, your family espeakas. right?

Tio.

Geo said...

This is incredible, beautiful, fabulous, makes-me-want-to-cry-big-fat-happy-tears news! If the baby's a girl, name her Walda. So so so sooooo glad for you! Party on!

And will you send ME your address too? pogofig@gmail.com

Geo said...

Oo, oo, I hope you get twins: Waldo and Walda! That'll chap some hides! (Plus, I will die from the cuteness.)

Geo said...

One more: try drinking apricot nectar. It can be really helpful when you're morning sick.

La Yen said...

Az--That cracks me up. And we all know how rocky it is.
Fig--I passed that along, and W says you are welcome to it, but your kid will get his butt kicked all the time. It comes with the name. (I am not so good with this, but he says it is worth it in the end.)
Rynell--thanks! I am working on getting excited, but mostly I am nauseated.

La Yen said...

Emily--WHO? would name them that exactly. People are so lame. (Although, my brother and I have both shouted at my sister-in-law who loves the name "Claire" "Claire? That's a fat girls name!"

Fig--she is really, really concerned. When she is not busy being a twelve-year-old boy, she is a sweet little girl all the way.

Queen--thanks for the dance! And she is just completely tactless. Also hormonal, so there is some of that.

La Yen said...

Undefined and Partridge--thanks for the wishes! It is still not real. Any suggestions on how to make it feel real?

Sue, I need zero ghetto pizza. I DO need the HD Pomegranate chip ice cream, though.

Sarah--I will fight anyone who says that about Huck. He is too delicious. You should hold him up and say "Say that to his face."

And Wife? I am naming him after W because he is the father. Just tell Stew he has been replaced. Then you can name him Colin Firth.

La Yen said...

Soybean, we will take your vibes. And when they lived in Japan, the way the locals pronounced Waldo was "Wado-B." That makes me very happy.

CKW, I will absolutely let you make me buckeyes. Because I am a giver like that. And if this baby can be even a tiny bit as sweet as yours, then it will all be worth it. (Because right now the sickness is making almost nothing worth it.)

Dalene, please come up and let me milk you for attention. I will schedule some dancing bananas...

iieeee--Find me that ticker and it will go up. Preferably one that does the Safety Dance.

La Yen said...

Kaerlig--I have sadly learned that lesson. Also that you can't teach them any potty words at all and still attend church and be viewed as holy.

Lisa--Thanks! I am totally ignoring the injunction about soft and stinky cheeses!

Sister P, thanks for the wishes. I am amazed at all of the love!

Tori--family is awesome. We all talked my sister out of naming her daughter "Beatrix Pearl" by calling her belly "Trixie P" for a few weeks.

Bek--thank heavens for MY OWN kids exactly. Also I have already gotten the "I knew once you adopted you would have your own!" Really? You knew that FIVE YEARS later I would get pregnant because I adopted? You are psychic!

La Yen said...

Anne-Marie--But don't you know the only reason to keep having more is to get that girl? :) Out here Hank would just be seen as the King of Macho. Also, July 7 is the drop date.

Beans, I am totally naming it Evelyn. Boy or girl.

And Tio and Monica, can we borrow the Halloween costume for size comparisons? Unless Liam has broken through the seams when he turns into the Incredible Hulk...

Geo, I am glad you are glad! And never say Apricot Nectar again. And I emailed you.

Carina said...

I just didn't want an angel to die.
