Why do people who don't like things think that it is helpful when they leave comments saying as much?
I have noticed this a few times in the past month (and MANY times before that) and am stumped.
When I do not like a blog post I ignore it. Unless it is specifically directed AT ME. ("That La Yen is less than awesome.")
If I am reading a blog for the first time, and I don't like the tone or the topic of the piece, then I may or may not read another one. If I still don't like it, then I JUST MOVE ON. For this reason I do not read some blogs that you may read, just because I don't like them. Do I let the writer know that? No. Why? Because they don't care that I don't enjoy their work. Maybe if their parents or children or Spiritual Advisor told them that they were too snarky/irreverent/unattractive/busty then they would care. But probably not.
So who are these people? Are they you? Am I missing some part of something that I don't understand? Have you done this? What are your thoughts?
PS. Not done baking. Sorry to turn the internet into a house of lies.

OH MY GOSH! I HATE THIS POST!
Just kidding.
I hear you. I think I am only temped to leave mean comments sometimes (I refrain) because I have a more than is healthy amount of rage.
The internet has the bizarre and scary capability of making people way meaner than they would ever be in real life.
p.s. "advisor."
Really? People do this?
I think I am disgruntled. Must go search out chocolate and subsequent gruntlement.
For real. Are they not heard in their own homes enough so that they feel like they have to voice their opinions elsewhere?
I don't read a blog if I don't like it. I don't spend time with people I don't like to listen to (even if it means skipping a GNO or book club).
I'm sure there are people that don't read my blog or choose not to be my BFF. Their loss--a loss that they should keep to themselves.
I sure hope I don't do that. If I have, please tell me.
P.S. I think it's rude. And also I'm really not that busty, it's just my organic "helpers."
Gurrbanzo--I initially typed that and spellcheck got all angry. Screw that spellcheck.
My favorite comment ever came on a post where people left a bunch of really complimentary comments. It said, "Oh Sue, we LOVE you, you're so awesome, you're so funny, you're SO SO special. UGH. VOMIT."
I laughed my butt off.
i am with you, actually. if i read a blog and don't particularly enjoy it's comments, i just pretend it doesn't exist...
these are things I myself do not thing long and hard about, because that would nullify the entire effort behind the leaving of such comments and that is what I am out to achieve.
ps I SHOULD BUY A BOAT!
For me there's a big difference between literary style and ideas. I'll leave a comment critical of someone's ideas or arguments, esp. if it's a persuasive-type post, but if it's an entertainment piece and just happens to not be my cup of tea, I don't waste my time.
(And since I think you're talking abt Carina's recent post, I'll say that her post was awesome and the comment was unnecessarily mean. Even "literary" criticism should be constructive, rather than with the intent of hurting.)
Don't hate me because I'm snarky.
:)
I agree with you, if you don't like what I have to say move on.
Oh, reading comprehension! How it fails us!
(How it has also failed me before!)
