Don't Drink the Green Slime

So, being six or fourteen has really hit home for us in The EP, lately. Nevermind that Jooj is actually three and three-quarters.

Case in point:
Merry Christmas Drake and Josh.

I am not sure how it started, but Jooj is in love with the "tween" shows on Nickelodeon. What probably happened is that we were watching Spongebob, and I went to the bathroom (when all bad things happen is when I go to the bathroom, it seems) and one of these shows came on. Now, all day, she wants "I Ca-Yee" or "Jake Y Josh." Really, I don't have too much of a problem with either show. I like that the girls in both shows are into technology and getting good grades. (~J has pointed out that they use the OMG word a lot on one of them, but then I countered with "They say that over the pulpit in our ward" so I am not too hung up on that.) We don't watch the Disney ones because I don't want Jooj winding up with a tongue thrust like that Miley. (Cursing is infinitely preferable to a speech impediment, I say.)

Anyhoo, for a special treat I let her stay up and watch the above-mentioned "Christmas*" program. We also tivoed it. Which is good, because we have been watching it three times a day, since. She knows Christmas songs that they sing in the program. During one part, they are "caroling," and one of the kids won't sing his "five golden rings." So they all chant his name, "Luke." She now walks around singing "Yupe! Yupe! Yupe! Yupe! Five Golden Rings!"

But even when we are not watching the show (which is almost never), she is acting it out. She says "You be Jake and I be Josh." Then she falls down and says "Whoah!!***" It disturbs me that she is going to grow up thinking overacting is the norm. Because it certainly is on that holiday special.

I have tried. I sat with her during the Peanuts ones (which say "stupid" every other word, I think) and through Mickey Christmas 1&2. Meh. She wants boys. And teens. And guitars. Shrek Christmas is also acceptable, but not on the same scale. Which is probably good, too, because I don't want her growing up to think that character development can be overlooked if you just use a lame accent. I have no hope for Rudolph whatsoever. Same goes for Frosty.

So for all you experienced moms, what is next? Do I buy her some Tiger Beat magazine? Do they still make that? Do I surrender now to A-Tis?

* Only in the slimmest sense
**And by "caroling" I mean "advertising for Drake Bell's CD
***Really, all that boy does is modulate his voice and fall down. She has got the bit perfectly.

Kanoa is fond of the stupid tween shows on Disney. I can't stand them.
