Well, Christmas came and went. And we all got sick. And so I didn't finish telling you about my traditions. See you next December for that, I say.
My favorite thing about January is doing my taxes. Because I love to get my return. I know, I know, I should adjust my deductions and withholding so I get zero back and pay zero and not give the government a loan. I know. But you know what else I know? I can't save a dime because every time we get an emergency fund we have a freaking emergency. So the tax refund is the one time we get a big chunk and can spend it on something we want, as opposed to something that is needed to stop flooding/fire/children.
This year I have big plans for the refund. We will be using most of it to put our emergency fund back into place so we can continue to do that ridiculous dance of putting out fires/floods/children, but also, we are going to buy a new TV.
The history of our television:
When we got married, my parents were divorcing. It was very sad. But a sick and rad unexpected outcome of the divorce is that people felt really bad for us and gave us a lot more wedding presents than normal. "Poor La Yen. She comes from a broken home." And that is how we got our first television.
About seven years later W's father, Papo, came to visit for about three days. He sat on our couch and said "This television is too small." And he went to Costco and bought our second television. It was bigger. (This was an excellent day for Tio Ricky, as he went home with our first television.)
Fast forward seven years, and we are feeling the lure of one of those fancy flat-screen things. We have tried pointing out to Papo that he needs to come and sit on our couch and look at how small the TV seems now, but he has declined that invitation. So, for the first time in fourteen years, we will be purchasing a new TV. And also a TV stand because I can't just put the new precious near the children who cause all of the fires/floods, right?

SO here is where the giveaway comes in:
CSN Stores contacted me about a giveaway for my readers. And you know I said "YES!" So, one of you is going to get a $40 gift card to spend on anything from any of their sites. They are a really cool outlet for purchasing just about anything under the sun. Including TVs. All you gots to do is follow me on the Google friend follower sidebar thing and leave a comment. Any comment at all. That's it. (I would use my card to augment my refund. But that's just me. And I don't even get a gift card. I just get to give one to you. Because I am a giver. A GIVER.)
I will close the comments and random generate a winner on January 7, which is in a week.
I hope you win.
**Here is where I say I got contacted, but I am not getting anything free at all. INTEGRITY, thy name is La Yen. (But if I did get something for free I would have totally taken it and then disclaimed that. Integrity Shmintegrity.)

What? Sometimes Random Number Generator picks #1.
Everyone knows that #2 is the best number ~j. At least the most satisfying after eating from a taco truck...wait that's something else. How quickly things degenerate when dastew participates. Anywho my favorite la Yen hand me down was the double wide couch. What a wonderful thing that was and I was so sad to part with it....
No way... 3 three is powerful.
NUMBER 3. ;-)
You are a giver. And Ima wanting that gift card.
Thank you!
And Merry Christmas.
And enjoy your new TV.
and here is where I go ahead and admit that I took my CSN giftcard and used it rather than gave it away, I don't have a middle name but selfish might fit. In all truth I made them promise to give me another gc to giveaway and they did. So there.
YEAAAAH BOOYYYEEEE
Love your blog & humor! I want in on the give away! (Yippee!)
Hello :)
Bummer about your sick december. Hope you're all feeling ship shape now.
I want a new TV, since my husband won a karaoke contest 8 years ago and that's how we bought our TV. And IF this TV dies, there is NO hope of a new tv in our future. So yeah, yay for you and your tax return tv buying. Hope you get the grooviest flat screen ever.
That said, here's hoping I win this gift card, 'cause that'd be fun.
La Yen I miss you and your randomness:) Come to AZ and we will get Schlotzkys I need to squeeze your baby boy...
Pick me! I'm RANDOM
Dude, wish we got a major appliance from "the bride's parents are divorcing" sympathy. A gift certificate would make up for it. Stay healthy this year!
You speak, I follow.
And also, I still have an ugly gift at my house for your sweet little guy. I was too embarrassed to mail it to you when I got it finished. So you shouldn't choose me, right? I'm not worthy! But if you do choose me (randomly), I will like that.
Here is my comment. I never know what to say in these comments without sounding like I'm begging.
When I got married, in PROVO, UT, I didn't receive one quilt. NOT A ONE!
I just thought you needed to know that.
If I get picked will the random number generator be accused of nepotism?
Comment! And also, I already follow you on that Google Friend Reader thingie.
Love your blog!! You always make me laugh!!
I adore giveaways for which just a comment will suffice.
I don't want angels to die AND I want to win something AND I want to say hello, so I guess that all adds up to leaving a comment. Is that a stick unicorn I see your little monkey holding? Why comes they didn't have stick unicorns when I was a kid? We just had to use regular sticks. That is the worst. I made up for it by getting one for my daughter for Christmas. She totally doesn't appreciate how much better it is than just a stick.
Thanks so much!!! I am a new follower :)

A GIVER, indeed :-)
Thanks for the giveaway! I'd love nothing more than to follow you, but your GFC widget seems to be MIA (as in, it isn't showing up for me in any of my four browsers), so I clicked 'follow' at the top of the page, but that doesn't always work because I follow too many blogs and Google doesn't like that. So, I'll check back to see if the widget appears tomorrow, but I also subscribed to your RSS feed--hope that's okay!
Also, a flat screen TV will change your life. Ours is only a 32" (not a 'big screen' by today's standards) but I love watching it so much!!!
