Do you solemnly swear that your child is an idiot?

So, I heard about this and was completely amazed. Seriously--who honestly thinks that tv is good for babies? I don't. Does my baby watch tv? Absolutely. Should I sue someone because I am a lazy parent who wants to take an occasional shower? Apparently I should.

Where's the class-action lawsuit against Teletubbies? Or the freakin' Doodlebops?

Honestly, I usually like the folks over at the CCFC. At least someone is saying that maybe our kids are over marketed to. I hate the number of commercials and the quality of them that are aimed at developing brains.

I'm not saying go after Baby Einstein, but I am saying LEAVE MY KID ALONE. I kind of feel like I'm in a war.

I know that there are a bunch of young professionals in a conference room someplace planning on the next big way to get my kid to buy something that isn't good for them and that they don't need.

At what point do we say that the marketing to children isn't OK? I don't want your Dora the Explorer Carrots.

Az, that is why I screen my babysitters thoroughly. Noggin, for example has no commercials, and ed-u-TAINS.

You know who thinks tv is GOOD for babies? No one. Not even the "under-educated" believe that. Do we tend to use it 'cuz we're lazy or because it can be fun? (Or because it is often times the only thing that will keep the rugrat occupied while I try to throw a meal together?) Heck yes. Do we need laws and more beauracracies to fix the tv epedemic? NO. No amount of government involvement will fix the parenting crisis of today. The blame game KILLS me! No matter how money hungry a company is, no matter how much they throw your way, it's still within your capacity to choose. Individuals and parents who step up to the plate and take responsibility in their own homes are the ONLY way to TRULY solve the tv epedemic. It's that darn agency thing. No matter how hard we try to make all the right choices for other people, it just doesn't work.

On that note... I hope there is a new Sesame Street episode tomorrow. I could really use that full hour of entertainment to get a decent shower tomorrow morning.
